Research Interests

I am a fourth year PhD student at the Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics where I work under the supervision of Andrei Starinets. My research lies primarily within the area of gauge/string duality. The duality states that certain Yang-Mills quantum field theories admit an equivalent description as a hologram of a string theory in a curved spacetime of one higher dimension. The perturbatively non-accessible strong coupling regime of the quantum field theory corresponds to the tractable (super-)gravity limit of the string theory. This allows for the investigation of generic thermodynamical and transport properties of strongly coupled quantum field theories which are relevant to systems such as the quark-gluon plasma and strongly interacting condensed matter systems. Moreover, the duality provides a framework in which intuition and techniques developed in the context of gravity can be applied to the study of field theory and vice-versa. My current work evolves around the construction of holographic gravity duals of certain condensed matter systems and the thermalisation pattern of strongly coupled field theories.
