Research Interests
I am Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of Oxford. My main research interest is to understand the properties of matter at extreme conditions. In particular, I am interested in the high-temperature phase of strongly interacting matter, the Quark Gluon Plasma. Close to the transition to the Quark Gluon Plasma phase, matter behaves as a strongly coupled system. An important part of my research focuses on understanding the dynamics of the deconfined phase of strongly coupled non-Abelian gauge theories via holography. This is a technique that relates strongly coupled theories to weakly coupled gravity with which we can access the thermodynamics, transport and off-equilibrium properties of this type of matter. The Quark Gluon plasma is explored in the laboratory by the collisions of heavy ions at ultra-relativistic energies at the LHC and at RHIC. Another important part of my research focuses on the phenomenological description of this type of collisions to extract properties of the plasma experimentally. Among the different observables, I am particularly interested in the dynamics of QCD jets produced in this heavy ion environment.
