Practicalities
Bed & breakfast is available in Merton @ £45 per
night for a standard room or £59 for an en-suite room. Lunch
costs £10. Dinner can be obtained in one of many nearby
restaurants, which cater to every taste. There will be a special dinner
in Merton on Wednesday September 7, which should be covered by the ESF
grant.
- We have a grant of Eu
13,800 from the
ESF to
cover all expenses. This sum should cover board
and lodging costs of participants from outside Oxford. Since a few
delegates are able to cover some or all of their local costs from their
own funds, it should be possible to contribute to the travel costs of a
few
less fortunate participants.
- The ESF's rules
restrict numbers to 30, so attendance is by invitation only.
- Buses run every
20 minutes from Heathrow to Oxford and the journey lasts 45-60 minutes
hour. Get
off at the "Queens Lane" bus stop. Walk on the way the bus has come
about 20m and turn right into "Logic Lane", which will take you through
the back of University College to Merton Street. Turn right into Merton
Street and the Merton Lodge is 25m further down the street on the left.
If the gates at the entrance to Logic Lane are closed, go on further
past "The Old Bank Hotel" to an alley, "Magpie Lane" (you have to look
backwards to see the street name) and turn left down this, and then
left again when you emerge into Merton Street; the College, with ts
large Chapel to the fore, is then a few yards down on your right.
- Buses run from
Gatwick to Oxford about every hour. Get off at Queens Lane as from the
Heathrow bus.
- All rooms
in Merton offer ethernet access via a standard plug, and wireless
access will be available at the workshop. Please bring
your own cable to connecting to the plug. Since unrecognized machines
are liable to be denied access to the server, the registration form
asks for MAC numbers so your laptop can be authorized.
