Purpose

Sophisticated dynamical models of the Milky Way will be needed if we are to attain the science goals of ESA's GAIA mission - to obtain a comprehensive knowledge of the present structure and manner of formation of the Milky Way. At this workshop we plan

• to specify the design requirements of models;
• to discuss the merits of  the technologies that could be used to construct models;
• to consider how models could be compared with both ground-based & GAIA data;
• to consider how the fit of a model to the data should be optimized;
• to discuss strategies for getting the necessary development work funded and done.
