Yes you could certainly write
g(w) = g_{acoustic}(w) + g_{optical}(w)
However, at least for the models we have considered so far, for a fixed w if g_acoustic(w) is nonzero, then g_optical(w) is zero and vice versa. Although this need not be the case, and I think you could certainly cook up models where they would both be nonzero for the same value of w.
