OS X/Linux/Unix System Administrator

Salary £24,886 to £30,607

 

Applications are invited for the post of System Administrator for the Theoretical Physics sub-department within the Department of Physics. The post holder will implement the transition from the current Sun Ray to an Apple Mac desktop network in Theoretical Physics, manage the system and provide user support. He/she will report to the Head of the Theoretical Physics sub-department and liaise with other members of Physics IT and, in particular, with the manager of the Theoretical Physics Beowulf cluster.

 

The successful candidate will have good knowledge of Linux/Unix and networked services and will be experienced in running a network of desktop computers. Familiarity with OS X will be of advantage. He/she should be proficient at user support, account management and application support. Well developed inter-personal skills will be essential as there will be extensive interaction with users and colleagues at Oxford. Some experience with support for scientific computing and cluster management would be an advantage, however experience in these areas may be gained as part of the job.

 

The post will be on the grade 7 pay scale with a maximum salary of £30,607. There are 38 days of annual leave and there may be some flexibility in the hours of work. Preferred starting date is August 1, 2007 and no later than October 1, 2007.
