Graduate opportunities

Research in theoretical astrophysics at Oxford University continues to push back the frontiers of astronomy in a number of different disciplines. It is an exciting time to be a graduate student in astrophysics at the moment, and the details below show how you can get involved.

Brief overview of research

Research in Theoretical Astrophysics is concentrated in the following areas: Solar and stellar atmospheres, galactic dynamics (including specific applications to the Milky Way) and Astroparticle physics. Students reading for a D.Phil are expected to attend a course in their first-year, as well as carry out research under supervision. There is typically 1 PPARC funded graduate student each year, together with one student with external funding.

Further astrophysics research in Oxford is detailed in the Astrophysics Research Booklet.

Email James Binney, John Magorrian or Alexander Schekochihin for information on D.Phil. projects.
