Contract Number: MRTN-CT2006-035863 Core Project Title: The origin of our universe: Seeking links between fundamental physics and cosmology Job Title: ESR (phd student) position at Bonn University Job Description: A phd student position ("Early Stage Researcher") is available at the Particle Theory group at the Physics Institute of Bonn University, Bonn, Germany (see http://th.physik.uni-bonn.de). The research will be carried out in the framework of the EU Marie Curie Research Training Network "UniverseNet" (more information at: http://www.physics.ox.ac.uk/universenet). The topic of this PhD project will be the physics of (elementary) dark matter particles. The candidate should thus have knowledge of particle physics and quantum field theory. A background knowledge of cosmology and astro-particle physics would be welcome. The candidate must hold the equivalent of a German "Diplom" degree (e.g., an MSc). Out of the total duration of the PhD work, 18 months will be funded via the Marie Curie network; the remaining period will be funded from other sources. Two classes of applicants will be considered: a) Citizens of a European Community Member or Associated State (except for Germany) or those who have resided in the European Community for at least four years in total of the five years prior to the appointment, and b) Third country nationals. We can appoint people in either category but applicants in category (b) should be aware that there is a restriction on their total number that can be appointed across the network. German nationals are also eligible if they can provide evidence that they have resided legally and had their main activity in a third country for at least four of the last five years prior to their appointment. Applicants must have no more than 4 years research experience (since obtaining the degree which qualified them to pursue doctoral studies; usually this means an MSc or BSc) at the time of appointment. They must not have resided or studied in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years preceeding the appointment (short stays such as holidays are exempt). Applications should include a full curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests, list of publications and the names and contact information of at least two Referees (who should be requested to write directly before the deadline below). Female candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
