Yeah, you have some factors of two different from the book (incidentally this book, by Plischke and Bergersen is quite good). Our spins are spin 1/2. H = (-1/2) J Sum_{} si sj So if you have two of them next to each other with the same spin the energy is -J s1 s2 = -J/4. Similarly if you have a coupling to external field -Sum_i g mu_b B s_i, if the spin is aligned with the field you have energy B g mu_b 1/2. Does that solve the problem?
