If we were comparing the moments of an insulator against a metal would we use the free spin approach for insulators and the pauli paramsgnetism approach with the appropriate density of states at the fermi energy for metals? If this is the case is this the same as saying metals in an insulator are isolated from their neighbours? is this due to the strong potential?
