In section 19.2.1 of your book about why electron moments align, you say that the naive explanation is about minimising electron-electron coulomb repulsion but it is more correct to talk about minimising electron screening of the nucleus.
I always thought these are two ways of looking at the same thing, i.e the e-e repulsion forms an effective e-nucleus screen and so it is just an analogy. What's the difference between the two effects?
