This point was raised in the lecture, but I am still a little confused about it I'm afraid. The Debye model assumes that the vibrations by which energy is transferred through a solid are quantised, yet the sum over states becomes an integral over k (or the density of states can be expressed as a continuous function which may be integrated over to give 3N). Could you please explain why this apparent loss of quantisation occurs? Many thanks
