Merton MMathPhys Seminar (4th year)

  Hilary Term 2018

NOTES: If you are meeting me in ThPhys-2.5 (this is in 1 Keble Road, R. Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics) and there is no one at the reception to let you in, please ring my mobile phone 07766138996 or office 01865 273 980.

Please attempt your problem sheets before the class, so we could deal with some of the arising problems in class. If you do not do that, it may turn out to be difficult for you to follow the discussion in class or to finish your homework on time. Please make sure you have your problem sheets with you in class.

Please turn in your homework by leaving it in the pidgeon hole of Glenn Wagner, who will be helping with the marking this term. Glenn and I cannot guarantee that work that is turned in late will be looked at. He will forward your homeworks to me and I will either leave them in your pidges or bring them to the tute. In the case of the latter eventuality, please make notes for yourselves while doing the homeworks to make sure you have a programme for what to discuss during the tutes. Note that Glenn also serves as a graduate mentor and you are encouraged to request appointments with him (although not guaranteed that he will have time for you) if after the tutes are done you are still having difficulties with the material.

CP3/4: I will cover the collection and problem sets HT-2, HT-4, HT-5 and HT-7. Prof Christopher Ramsey will do the rest, including vacation work, which should be pifged to him. Please arrange your schedule (and process for turning in homework) with him directly.

CP3/4: Graham Ross's notes on Wave Motion
CP3/4: On Vector Calculus, I recommend Ramin Golestanian's lecture notes
CP3/4: Problem Sheets for HT-18 (the same as last year, although I may make some minor updates, which I will let you know about)
